Migrations
All living things migrate across the earth. Seeds, viruses, butterflies, turtles, animals, people. Living beings have always migrated across the planet, bound to the earth.
These new abstract works are being created by the artist employing natural cotton and silk fibers and cloths, a variety of papers including remnants of butcher paper and Japanese rice papers. with Sumi ink applied using handmade found natural object brushes. In these works, the artist is exploring mark-making amid the interaction between the various components utilized in each piece to capture the ideas of place, of terrain and territory.
Layering the various stained papers and fabrics, the artist is composing a territory or terrain. Stitching through the layers further develops the texture and terrain of each piece. Finally, each ink dot is added to suggest the migrations, the undulating nature of movement across the space.
